Security Through Christ
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:28)
While I was in Israel several years ago, a dear pastor friend passed away from an accident. He and I had enjoyed a wonderful conversation just a few days before I left. Needless to say, I was completely devastated when I received word of his home-going. You see, I loved him deeply. I had stayed in his home, had played rounds of golf with him, and had roomed with him during meetings we both attended.
Months later, when I saw his contact information (with all of his telephone numbers) on my phone, I thought to myself, “Should I delete this? I will never be able to talk to him on this side of eternity again.” Something inside of me struggled. To delete his contact information just didn’t seem right. I felt that if I did, that somehow I would lose him again. It felt wrong to even consider deleting his information. The real truth is that storing his earthly contact information served only as a place holder for memories on my phone. I know that he is with Christ, the safest and most secure place in all of this world.
Deleting his contact information from my phone doesn’t delete his legacy and memory from my mind. As long as I am alive, his memory is secure within my heart. However, there is a more secure place than our hearts…and that is with Jesus!
Eternal security is based upon His Word, His Life, and His Salvation, not what we would offer. Sadly, we have little to bring to the table. No wonder the biblical writer wrote about our filthy rags. That is all we have to bring and they are unacceptable! Not only has Jesus provided us salvation through His death on the cross and victorious resurrection, but He promises us complete security. He never uses the “Delete” feature when it comes to us. Wow! You will never be deleted!
There is something extremely powerful about this verse! These are the very words of Jesus, promising that once He gives eternal life, we are completely secure. Amazing! If you have any of those nagging thoughts still in your mind, such as: “I’m not good enough!” or “I don’t deserve this!” or “How could He ever love ME?” Flush them out with this promise, and do it now! Hang on to the security of your salvation by focusing upon the Word of God, and not the thoughts in your mind. You are secure, completely secure! Celebrate this today by starting the “happy dance” now!
