Experiencing Christ’s Fullness
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
As Christians, we want to experience Christ’s fullness in its totality. In other words, we want to experience all that a relationship with the Lord has to offer. How do we do that? How do we receive the fullness of Christ?
The law stresses that performance is the key in earning any favor, love, or fulfillment. Often, we believe if we follow all of the rules, do the right thing, be kind to others, and do our best not to sin; God will love us more and we will earn more of His favor. God knew that we would never measure up to the standard He expected for someone who will have a relationship with Him. That’s why He sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the ultimate price on our behalf.
The grace that comes as a result of the cross is a free gift we can accept from the Lord. There is nothing we can do to make ourselves worthy on our own. Likewise, there is nothing we can do to disqualify ourselves from being able to accept God’s free gift of salvation.
Jesus paid the price, so we don’t have to; and He did this because He loves us. His fullness comes from that love. If we want to experience the desired fullness, we must make the choice to follow Him and surrender our lives to Him. Knowing about Jesus is not enough. We have to be dedicated to living our lives according to His will, so that we point others to Him. Thereby, they can also experience the fullness in Christ.
