Looking Forward
The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw -- that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. (Revelation 1:1-3)
The Book of Revelation is a work which has perplexed the most astute Bible students of all times. The early church received it with joy and felt the encouragement it provided. No matter what our present lot entails, the Lord is in charge. He has a plan and we are part of that plan!
I have been on the island of Patmos and walked into the cave where John received this completely awesome, powerful message to all people for all times. Many shy away from studying this wonderful Book because of the different interpretations given to it over the years.
In college, I remember asking my New Testament professor what his eschatological position was at the time. Not theologically equipped at that moment, I had wrongly assumed that there were only three possible interpretations for the Book of Revelation. I inquired, “Professor, are you a Pre, Post or Amillennial?” His response was classic as he said, “I’m a Panmillenialist…I believe it’s going to “pan” out in the end! And by the way, I’m not on the invitation committee. I’m on the reception committee.” Wise words, indeed! Accordingly, read this Book and allow the Lord to speak to your heart with its powerful words of encouragement.
Revelation is a testimony of Jesus Christ for His children. It comes with great blessing to the ones who would read it, take it to heart and rest in it. The phrase, “because the time is near,” (Revelation 1:3) brings a great sense of expectation. God’s timing has always been perfect, and it remains perfect today. Our ultimate home is heaven, because we have been created by Him and for Him. Are you looking for peace in your life today, especially when you hear of global instability? Look forward to what the Lord has planned for you. “History,” as one man said, is “His-Story.” He is not through with you or with this planet yet. Keep looking forward!
