How Does God Speak?
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:27-28)
Have you ever wondered how God will speak to you? He speaks to you and to me through His Word.
The written Word of the Lord is very important! God speaks to you through His Word. Don’t wait for a special word of knowledge. If you get into the Word of God, you will have a word of knowledge for your life. The way God speaks to us is through His Word. You need to read it and reread it. Reread the Word of God until you really know it; then you will be able to sense the tug of the Spirit of God on your heart.
As you read the Word of God, read it slowly. You need to read with meditation. Don't just read it to outline it. You need to read it like it is food, because it is the bread of life! As you read through the Word of God, ask the Lord to speak to you. The Holy Spirit will give you eyes to see and ears to hear. He will not only do that, but He will give you a special sense that the Word is for you from that point on. Have you ever had an experience where you are reading the Word of God, and suddenly the light goes on? It is like the Spirit of God says to you, “Hey, child of God, read that again. This one has your name on it.” This is the experience of a child of God. God is speaking to you, not just with information, but with inspiration.
I pray that you will long for this more than any other thing in life. I pray this is the goal of your life. Every single day that you live, I pray that when you wake up in the morning, you will say, “Oh God, I need to hear from you.” As you read the Word of God, it might not be coming to you in bright blinking lights. You will have no doubt that it is just for you today; this is the word that you need to focus on today. However, it might also come in a still small voice, a whisper. In either case, I hope you carve out the time to let the Lord speak to you through His Word every single day.

I used to read through the Old Testament thinking that it was boring. Then one time someone said that men like it when you acknowledge when they have done something and are telling you about it enthusiastically. Then I started to pay attention to all the details that God told the people to do. It is exciting to let God speak to me through His Word each day
