When You Need Hope
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb… The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” (Matthew 28:1, 5-7)
Have you ever thought how hopeless Jesus’ followers must have been on the day of His crucifixion? For years, they had been believing in and serving alongside the Messiah. They left everything behind to follow Jesus, yet there He was, hanging on a cross, struggling for every breath.
I can’t even imagine how they felt when Jesus died. Remember, they had no idea what would happen three days later. All they knew was that their Savior had died, and their hope had died with Him. I am sure you can think of a time when your world felt dark and hopeless, as well. Maybe, you are in one of those seasons right now, and you are thinking, “I can’t go another day like this. I just feel so empty.”
It has been said, “There is a God-shaped hole in all of us that only God Himself can fill.” If you are trying to fill that hole with anything other than God, I can see why you feel empty. If you are looking for hope in anything besides Christ, it makes sense that you would feel discouraged. Let me encourage you; Jesus died to fill that empty space in your heart. Not only did He die for you, but He rose again for you. With His resurrection comes hope.
Jesus’ life and resurrection are wonderful reminders that this life is not all there is. You don’t have to live this life alone and empty. His resurrection says, “The best is yet to come!”
If you haven’t already surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, I pray that you would repent of your sins and accept His free gift of eternal life. He died for you! Let Him fill the empty space in your soul!
