Find Rest in the Lord
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
We should meditate on these Scripture verses during this difficult time in our world. As we are being burdened by fear, worry, bad news, loneliness, change, and uncertainty; Jesus asks us to seek Him for rest and comfort. Jesus makes four statements in this passage of Scripture:
Let me ask you a question. Are you following these guidelines to find rest? Are you spending time in the Lord’s presence each day? Are you coming to Him with open hands, surrendering control rather than fighting to keep it? Are you reading His Word and learning from the example Jesus set for us during His time on earth? If not, I encourage you to start doing each of these things every day. We all need rest, peace, and comfort right now. Do the things that Jesus commands in order to find and experience those things.
We should meditate on these Scripture verses during this difficult time in our world. As we are being burdened by fear, worry, bad news, loneliness, change, and uncertainty; Jesus asks us to seek Him for rest and comfort. Jesus makes four statements in this passage of Scripture:
- Come to me. If you want to experience true rest, you must draw near to the Lord. If you are looking for comfort and peace in anything or anyone else, you will be severely disappointed. Only God can give you the rest and peace your soul is craving.
- Take my yoke. This is another way of saying, “Let me take control.” Instead of trying to control your circumstances, situations, and schedules, surrender control to Jesus. Because He is the only One who truly has control over everything, follow His lead. This will avoid the disappointment you will face when you try to control everything yourself.
- Learn from me. Make use of your time to get into Scripture and read about Jesus; He set a wonderful example for us. We can learn so much from Him about how He handled fear, stress, and uncertainty, just by reading about His life.
- Find rest for your souls. When you take the initiative to do the things in this list, drawing near to the Lord, letting Him take control, and learning from His example; you will find true rest.
Let me ask you a question. Are you following these guidelines to find rest? Are you spending time in the Lord’s presence each day? Are you coming to Him with open hands, surrendering control rather than fighting to keep it? Are you reading His Word and learning from the example Jesus set for us during His time on earth? Jesus is the way,the truth and life for me
Jesus said in this world we will have trouble, but that He has overcome the world. He is our rest and peace in all the chaos around us. Thank You, Jesus.
Jesus further tells us to live in the present and do not worry. Matthew 6, verse 27 “ can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
nNotice he didn’t say add a year, a month ,a week or even a day but an hour! He is telling us to live in the present and if you do , you will not be worrying about the future. He is telling us not to worry about the future because you can’t do a thing about it. Live now! Live today for the Lord . when tomorrow comes , live that day for the lord. If it doesn’t come, problem solved, your home at peace with the Lord!
