Dancing to a Different Beat
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)
The battle for your soul is happening right now. Our culture isn't just disagreeing with God's Word—it's aggressively at war with it. And if you're honest, there are days when you feel like a soldier caught between two armies.
I still remember skiing down mountains in 1980 with the Imperials' lyrics pounding through my headphones: "I listen to the trumpet of Jesus while the world hears a different sound. I march to the drumbeat of God Almighty while the others just wander around." Those words weren't just lyrics—they were battle instructions.
You see, holiness isn't some dusty religious concept. It's the radical choice to dance to heaven's music when everyone around you is hypnotized by the world's rhythm. And that choice will cost you something.
Just last week, a young couple sat across from me in my office, defensive and frustrated. "Pastor," they said, "we love each other and we're committed. Why does it matter if we're living together before marriage? Everyone we know does it."
I leaned forward and asked them something my mother would ask me: "If everyone jumped off a bridge, would that make it safe to jump?" Their justification wasn't about Scripture; it was about fitting in. And God hasn't called you to fit in—He's called you to stand out.
Here's a truth that will set you free if you let it: Every "thou shall not" in Scripture is God drawing a circle of protection around you, not a prison cell to confine you. He restricts what destroys and permits what fulfills.
Right now, inside you, two forces are battling for control. Your flesh—with its immediate demands and instant gratification—and God's Spirit—with His eternal perspective and lasting joy. One leads to life that feels like death; the other to death of self that feels like true life.
Today, I'm challenging you: Stop trying to harmonize with a world that's playing from a different sheet of music. Choose deliberately whose drumbeat you'll follow. Because when heaven's rhythm becomes the heartbeat of your life, you'll stop apologizing for being different and start celebrating why.

I love living with God's drum beat. The world has a hole that they keep trying to find ways to fill it. I love being wrapped in God's love ?
