Watch Out
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. - Matthew 7:15-16
Jesus was concerned for His followers and said to watch out for false prophets. They come in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ferocious wolves. By their fruit, you will recognize them. And remember, it doesn’t take much to be out of balance. Heresy is truth out of balance. It may not be a big imbalance, but it could be just a hair to the right or a hair to the left, and it will affect people.
Sadly, theological education is not as important to many today in ministry, and churches have accepted that as the norm. That should not be. Many individuals are preaching to large gatherings with theology that is off bubble. They are heretical and leading people to believe what Scripture does not teach. It sounds good and makes people feel comfortable, but that’s not the point. The purpose of preaching is to equip people to line up with where God is going.
If God ever moves you to another part of the country and you join another church, before you put your name on the dotted line, you need to know what they believe. You need to look them over like you’re buying a mule. Don’t make a decision about where to sit under someone’s teaching without knowing what they teach. That’s not just important for you; it’s important for your kids as well.
Jesus said, “Watch out.” Just as there were false teachers in His day, there are today. We must be students of God’s Word—equipped, discerning, and aligned with truth.
