Jesus Plus Nothing
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9
Today’s key verse makes it very clear that only Jesus can save you. What He did on the cross, shedding His blood, covers our sin. We will go to heaven based on what Jesus did for us, not what we have done for Jesus. It’s Jesus plus nothing.
You don’t have to have communion to go to heaven. You don’t have to be baptized to go to heaven. You don’t have to be a member of a church to go to heaven. Think about the thief on the cross. He didn’t have a chance to get baptized, either by immersion or sprinkling. He never took communion. He was never able to get connected to a local church. But guess where he is? Heaven. Jesus said, “Today, you will be with me in paradise.”
A lot of people have been taught by individuals whose theological framework isn’t biblical. And that’s why it’s essential to know what you believe—and why. We must be able to communicate this to others, especially our families and our kids.
What you believe about salvation cannot be shaped by feelings or what culture says is fair. You are saved by grace through faith. That’s the gospel. Don’t water it down. Don’t add to it. Stand firm in the truth that Jesus alone is enough.
Be confident in your salvation. Be grateful for grace. And help others understand it’s Jesus, plus nothing.
