Staying Close to the Fire
“How much more, then, will the blood of Christ... cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” - Hebrews 9:14
This week has been one of the wildest weeks for weather in the 21 years I have lived in Nebraska. Yesterday, I picked up branches and limbs and lit a fire in the pit. Later, my wife said, “You smell like smoke!” That’s what smoke does. It clings to you.
Holiness is like that. Stay near Jesus, and people will know. You’ll carry His aroma.
If you want to have the aroma of holiness in your life, you have to stay around the fire. You need to stay close to Jesus. It is only through intimacy with Him that you can have the power of God's holiness in your life.
A believer who is walking in holiness with God does not have to warn people, “Watch out, I am holy!” People can smell you. They can sense whether there is an anointing in your life or not. There is a sense that God is doing something in your life because you are giving off that aroma of being intimate with Jesus.
I cannot take you there myself. I can just encourage you to get there. If you make it a priority to spend time alone with the Lord Jesus, you will take on the aroma of heaven. By reading His Word and staying around the fire pit of heaven, you will take on the aroma of Jesus. This is what real Christianity does; it draws you into an intimate relationship with Jesus.
