Set Apart for God
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. (Galatians 5:13)
Friend, let me ask you something that might sting a little: Are you truly free, or are you a slave pretending to be free? Our culture has sold you a counterfeit freedom—doing whatever you want, whenever you want it. But that's not freedom; that's bondage wearing a mask.
Let me tell you about a conversation that changed how I view freedom. A mortician friend stopped by my house after a funeral, drink in hand. When I asked what he was drinking, he said alcohol. Without judgment, I simply said, "Oh." He looked me straight in the eyes and said, "Curt, I can't face the pain without this. After dealing with death and grieving families, this is my only escape."
In that moment, the Holy Spirit showed me something profound. This man thought he was free to drink, but he was actually enslaved by what he thought liberated him. And I wonder today—what's your alcohol? What's the thing you run to that you think gives you freedom but actually has you in chains? For some, it's a substance. For others, it's shopping, social media, food, approval, or even religious performance.
True freedom—the kind Jesus died to give you—isn't about having no restraints. It's about being so completely controlled by the Holy Spirit that sin loses its power over you. When God calls you to holiness—to be "set apart"—He's not restricting your freedom; He's showing you what real freedom feels like.
I challenge you today: Look at the areas where you feel most defensive. The things you'd quickly say, "There's nothing wrong with that!" Those are often the very places where chains have grown comfortable.
Pray this right now: "Lord, show me where I've accepted chains as normal. Give me courage to let Your Spirit truly free me, not just comfort me in my bondage. I want Your freedom, not the world's counterfeit version."
When Jesus becomes your first love, those chains will fall away—not as painful sacrifices, but as weights you suddenly realize you no longer need.

The Message is very good! Encouraging! I'm on a healthy eating program. Have lost the small amount of weight compared to what others have lost. God is in this with me. However, still have a problem with getting off track of eating what's not good for my body. I'm a healthy 82 year old widow. Holy Spirit also helps me! Still need to be mindful of what is good, and ASKING Holy Spirit for HELP with CHOICES! God's blessings; and safety be over you!
