Conversion and Conversation
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (Romans 10:9-10)
There are two things that need to be true of your life in order to truly know the Lord.
The first is that you must have a real conversion experience. You’ve got to have a life-changing, life-altering spiritual experience where you acknowledge you’re a sinner and that you need Christ. This is a moment you should be able to point to and say, “That was the moment I turned from my sin and began to follow Jesus.” It’s the moment where you invited Christ to take total charge, to forgive you of your sin, and to fully reign over every aspect of your life. At this moment, you are born again, and therefore you begin to know Him personally.
The second is that there must be a real conversation in process. If you are following Jesus, there must be a consistent conversation going on between you and Him. This conversation should be made of times where you actively listen for the Lord to speak to you, and times where you speak to Him as well. God does an amazing amount of work in us and through us when we pray. And when we see Him working and moving, we come to know Him better.
Are these two things true of your spiritual walk? Can you point back to a real conversion experience? Do you have a real conversation in process with the Lord on a consistent basis? If so, my prayer is that God would continue to bless you and grant you wisdom and growth as you follow Him. But if you can’t identify with either or both of the statements above, I pray that you wouldn’t waste another second without getting right with God.
Make this moment the moment of your conversion experience. Surrender your life Christ and ask Him to be the Lord of your life. And if you’ve already been born again but haven’t been conversing with Him, ask the Lord to give you a renewed desire for Him. Begin making a prayer a part of your daily routine, and get excited for all that God is going to do in and through you as you seek to know Him better.
