Diving Into God’s Word
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
As you pursue Jesus and grow in your relationship with Him, the enemy is going to use whatever he can in this world to try to deceive you and steer you down the wrong path. That is why it’s so important that, as a believer, you know God's Word and you read God's Word.
If you are diligent in studying your Bible, you will be able to discern what is right and what is wrong. You will be able to identify the deceivers and those individuals who are being deceived, and you will be able to withstand deception yourself.
Sadly, many Christians will turn to other aspects of their faith rather than turning to the Word of God when they need discernment. But we must remember that the manual for Christianity is not tradition. It is not denomination. It is not cultural correctness, but rather it is what God's Word teaches.
For many of us, we find it comforting to align ourselves with a denomination because we feel like that offers stability. Are we likely to rest in tradition because that gives us a sense of stability? Let me be very clear with you: sometimes, denominations go awry. Sometimes, tradition becomes a law in itself. It can bind people more than the Word of God itself. You and I need to be people of the Book, following God’s Word in everything, first and foremost.

I love to read the Bible and follow Jesus's teachings. I know a guy where I live that doesn't believe in God. He will talk to people around him and they think he is a good person. People around me don't read their bibles and don't go to church. I hear him leading others astray all the time. I will keep praying, going to church to fellowship with other believers and keep reading the Bible for myself to know what is true.
