Don’t Forget
“My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me. I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. I sent Moses to lead you, also Aaron and Miriam. My people, remember what Balak king of Moab plotted and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the Lord.” – Micah 6:3-5
It’s so easy for us to forget what God has done for us in the past. When God comes through for us, in the moment we are excited, grateful, and relieved. But as more time passes, we move on to the next thing we want or are waiting for and quickly forget God’s past faithfulness.
This is exactly what happened with the Israelites in Micah chapter 6. The Lord had to remind them of all that He had done for them and all that He had brought them through because they had forgotten. They were so focused on their current issues and troubles that they didn’t give a second thought to all God had done for them and saved them from up until that point.
Have you forgotten what God has done in your past? Maybe He restored a broken relationship. Maybe He provided for you financially when you weren’t sure you were going to be able to pay the bills. Maybe He answered a prayer that you had been asking Him about for years. Whatever the case may be, we all have stories of God’s faithfulness. So let us not be so quick to forget these amazing testimonies as we walk through our current struggles, trials, and seasons of waiting.
God is just as capable of coming through for you now as He was before. His faithfulness remains unchanged. He is still good. He is still loving. And He still knows and wants what’s best for you. Don’t forget God’s work in your past. Instead, let your remembrance of His past work fuel your faith today.
