Whose Agenda Are You Following?
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:2)
Here's a question that might make you a little uncomfortable: Whose agenda are you living under?
I was talking with a friend recently who was all worked up about politics. He was letting the latest political drama consume his thoughts, his conversations, even his peace of mind. Finally, I had to ask him, "Brother, are you taking your orders from cable news or from God's Word?"
That's the challenge we face every single day. The world has an agenda - it wants to shape how you think, what you value, and where you place your hope. Social media has an agenda. Political parties have agendas. Even well-meaning friends and family members have their own agendas for your life.
But as a follower of Jesus Christ, you live under a different agenda entirely. You're not a Republican Christian or a Democrat Christian - you're a Christian who happens to live in America. Your primary citizenship is in heaven, and your Commander-in-Chief is Jesus.
Let me tell you what happened to me years ago when I was getting too caught up in political battles. I was losing sleep over things I couldn't control, getting angry at people who disagreed with me. Then God gently reminded me through His Word that my job isn't to fix the world - it's to be faithful to Him right where I am.
Here's the truth that changed my perspective: God's plan doesn't depend on any political party getting it right. He's been working through imperfect leaders and flawed governments for thousands of years. He used Pharaoh, He used Nebuchadnezzar, He even used a Persian king to finance the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem.
When you align yourself with God's agenda instead of the world's agenda, something beautiful happens. You find peace in the midst of chaos. You discover hope that doesn't rise and fall with election results. You start viewing current events through the lens of Scripture rather than through the lens of fear.
So here's my challenge for you today: Before you check the news, check in with God. Before you get worked up about what politicians are doing, ask yourself what God wants you to do. Before you let the world's agenda drive your emotions, let God's agenda drive your actions.
Remember, you're a child of grace, living under the authority of the King of Kings. His agenda is perfect, His timing is flawless, and His love for you never changes - regardless of what's happening in Washington or anywhere else.
Live like it today.
