A Hospital, Not a Showcase
"It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." — Mark 2:17
What kind of place is the church supposed to be?
Remember this: "The church is a hospital for sinners, not a showcase for saints!" Sometimes we invert that and think we are here for show. We are here to help because all of us need help.
I've watched people avoid church because they think they have to get cleaned up first. They think they need to fix their lives, quit their bad habits, and get their act together before they're welcome.
That's backwards.
You don't get healthy before you go to the hospital. You go to the hospital because you're sick. You go because you need help. You go because you can't fix yourself.
The church works the same way.
We're not a museum displaying perfect people. We're not a showcase of saints who have it all figured out. We're a hospital filled with people in various stages of recovery.
Some of us just walked through the emergency room doors. Some of us are in surgery. Some of us are in physical therapy, learning to walk again. Some of us have been healing for years but still come back for checkups.
All of us need help.
The Bible teaches us that if we care about others who are in pain, that is a characteristic of God. This is why He sent His son Jesus. We are in great pain when we are separate from Him. Our only hope is when we get in Him.
If you've been avoiding church because you feel too broken, too messy, too far gone—you're exactly who we're here for. You're exactly who Jesus came for.
And if you're already in the church, remember what it is. Stop expecting perfection from the people around you. They're patients, just like you.
We're all here because we need the Great Physician.
Come as you are. Healing happens here.
