Be Still in a Scrolling World
"He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'" — Psalm 46:10
When was the last time you were truly still?
Many of us are so caught up in scrolling on our devices that we hear all the noise. It is time for you to be quiet and ask God what He wants of you. Ask Him to sense His presence and hear His voice on how to pray.
Think about your typical day. You wake up and immediately check your phone. Notifications. Emails. News. Social media. The noise starts before your feet hit the floor.
Throughout the day, every spare moment gets filled. Waiting in line? Scroll. Eating lunch? Scroll. Can't sleep? Scroll.
We've eliminated silence from our lives. And in doing so, we've made it nearly impossible to hear God.
"Be still" is a command, not a suggestion. God is telling us to stop. To quiet ourselves. To create space for Him.
But stillness feels uncomfortable now. Silence feels awkward. We've trained ourselves to need constant input, constant stimulation, constant noise.
Here's what you're missing: God often speaks in the quiet. Not in the notifications. Not in the headlines. Not in the endless scroll.
Elijah didn't hear God in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire. He heard God in a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12). A whisper you can only hear when you're still.
I know why you came to church today. You came because there is an expectation on your part that you will open up your life. You are opening your heart and your ears, longing for God to speak to you.
He certainly will. But you have to get quiet enough to hear Him.
Put down the phone. Turn off the noise. Be still.
God is speaking. Are you quiet enough to listen?
