Focus on What He’s Done
"Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits." — Psalm 103:2
What are you focusing on?
We often have a negative attitude when it comes to giving. We might say, "Even though God has impressed on me to give, I won't have anything left." Where do you think all the resources God has given you came from? They did not come from you.
We need to focus on God's gifts, not reasons to withhold.
Listen to David's words: "Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's" (Psalm 103:1-5).
Focus on what God has done for you. This should be the mentality in our lives. If you focus on how God has blessed you, you will loosen the grip on your resources.
He forgave your sins—every single one. He redeemed your life from the pit. He crowned you with love and compassion. He satisfies your desires with good things.
When you rehearse His benefits, your fist unclenches. When you remember His generosity, yours increases. When you focus on what He's done, withholding feels ridiculous.
The ability to earn wealth comes from God, not from you. He opens the doors. He blesses the work of your hands. He gave you the skills you have.
Stop focusing on reasons to hold back. Start focusing on everything He's given. Gratitude is the gateway to generosity.
