Heart of Africa or Throne of England

"What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?" — Mark 8:36
 
Where would you rather be?
 
David Livingstone, the great missionary and explorer, said these words: "I'd rather be in the heart of Africa in the will of God than to be on the throne of England and out of the will of God."
 
Think about that for a moment.
 
The throne of England—power, prestige, comfort, security, influence. Everything the world says you should want.
 
The heart of Africa—in Livingstone's day, that meant disease, danger, isolation, hardship. Everything the world says you should avoid.
 
And Livingstone said he'd choose Africa every time—if that's where God's will led him.
 
Would you?
 
We have the option whether we will choose to be in the will of God or out of the will of God. Most of us, if we're honest, would choose comfort over calling. We'd pick security over surrender. We'd take the throne over the jungle.
 
But here's what Livingstone understood: There is no safer place than the center of God's will—even if that place looks dangerous to everyone else. And there is no more dangerous place than outside God's will—even if that place looks safe.
 
"Whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it" (Matthew 16:25).
 
Where is God calling you? Would you rather be there—wherever "there" is—than anywhere else outside His will?
