Sit on the Lid
"A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." — Proverbs 11:25
What's your default setting: giving or hoarding?
There's a mentality that says, "Get all you can get. Keep on getting all you can get. Put it somewhere safe, sit on the lid, and poison the rest so no one else can have it."
That's not an exaggeration. That's how many people actually live.
But look at how God designed the world. The sun gives light and warmth every single day. The moon reflects and gives. The stars give their glow. The earth keeps producing, keeps yielding, keeps giving.
Everything God made is designed to give.
And then there's man. We hoard. We stockpile. We accumulate far more than we need and convince ourselves we might use it someday. Our garages overflow. Our storage units multiply. And somehow we still feel like we don't have enough.
"Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days" (Ecclesiastes 11:1).
God is a giver. His nature is generosity. And if you belong to Him, that same nature should be growing in you. Not a clenched fist, but an open hand. Not sitting on the lid, but lifting it off and letting it flow.
The irony is that the tighter you grip, the less satisfied you become. But the more you give, the more you discover that God keeps refilling what you pour out.
Stop hoarding. Start giving. It's what you were made for.
