Some Remain Blind
Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere: “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts.” (John 12:37-40)
It is a sobering principle that God would allow someone to remain blind to Him. It is really confusing to some of us, but we can also relate to that feeling because many of us were blind to God for some time before we finally saw the light and acknowledged our need for Christ and surrendered our lives to Him.
However, not everyone comes to that point in their life where they realize their spiritual blindness and their need for a savior. Some people will live their entire life trying to figure things out on their own.
Given what we know to be true about Jesus, why would some people choose to carry their sin on their backs? We wonder why someone would turn their back and refuse to respond to Christ and receive Him. But what we must understand is that God is not going to force anyone’s eyes open. And even if someone’s eyes are open, He’s not going to force them to respond. He may lead you to water like the proverbial horse, but He will not make you drink.
You must come to a point where you choose to fully surrender your life to Christ if you want to be rid of your spiritual blindness. You must acknowledge your need for Jesus to save you and accept His free gift of grace and mercy that He died on the cross to give you. Once you do this, your eyes will be opened to all that the Lord has for you.
