From Your Own People
"A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home." — Mark 6:4
Where is your greatest opposition coming from?
Paul had enemies everywhere, but the most relentless opposition came from his own people. The Jews he had grown up with, studied with, worshiped with. They had a contract out on his life. Wherever he traveled, a hit squad followed. The people who should have celebrated him wanted him dead.
And Paul called it out directly.
Sometimes the greatest opposition to the ministry God gives you will come from your own family, your own friends, your own network. The people who know you best may be the ones who resist your calling most.
"A person's enemies will be the members of their own household" (Matthew 10:36).
Maybe your family thinks you've become too religious. Maybe old friends mock your faith. Maybe coworkers resent your integrity. Maybe even people in your church oppose the direction God is leading you.
It stings more when it comes from people you love. Strangers can criticize and you shake it off. But when your own people stand against you, it cuts deep.
Paul didn't let it stop him. He was mindful of where the opposition was, but he didn't let it dictate his obedience. He lived to please God, not the crowd that would applaud or condemn him.
If you're facing resistance from those closest to you, take heart. You're in good company. Keep walking. Keep obeying.
God's approval is the only one that matters.
