Spiritual DNA
"Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters." — Hebrews 2:11
Who is your real family?
Paul used an interesting word when he wrote to the Thessalonians. He said being separated from them made him feel "orphaned." That's family language. Deep, intimate, connected-at-the-heart language.
And here's the truth: for many of us, our church family is closer than our biological family.
That might sound strange, but think about it. You share spiritual DNA with every believer. You have the same Father, the same Spirit living inside you, the same eternal destination. That bond runs deeper than blood.
"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household" (Ephesians 2:19).
Physical DNA determines your eye color, your height, your predispositions. But spiritual DNA determines your identity, your purpose, and your forever family. And spiritual DNA is stronger.
Some of you have difficult relationships with your biological relatives. Maybe there's distance, dysfunction, or outright rejection. That pain is real. But it doesn't define your family.
The church is your family. The people sitting next to you on Sunday, the ones in your small group, the believers you serve alongside. These are your brothers and sisters in the deepest possible sense.
Don't take that for granted. Invest in those relationships. Fight for those connections.
Your spiritual family will be with you for eternity.
