Witness with Your Words
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
As followers of Christ, we should conduct ourselves in a way that points others to Him. The way we act, think, behave, and speak should make it very clear to those around us that we are different; we have the Holy Spirit living in us.
Many of us focus more on making sure the way we act and behave reflects our faith, rather than focusing on the power of our words. God wants you to spread the Good News of the Gospel with your words. Right before Jesus ascended into heaven, He told His disciples that He wanted them to make disciples and teach people to obey God’s commands. If we are going to carry out The Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), we must use our words.
From the very beginning of creation, there was much power in the spoken word. God brought everything into existence with just His words. He used the words of prophets in the Old Testament to tell us about the coming Messiah. He used the words of Jesus to bring hope to those who were lost and hurting. Also, He commanded us to use our words after Jesus ascended to continue spreading that message of hope to those who are desperately searching for it.
Don’t be afraid to verbally proclaim the Good News of Jesus and to share the Gospel with the people around you. Speak the truth in love and watch how God uses your faithfulness and obedience to draw others to Himself.
