The Danger of Addiction
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. (Colossians 3:5)
When we think about addiction, we typically think of being addicted to things like drugs, alcohol, or pornography. While these are dangerous addictions, we need to realize that there are plenty of other things we can become addicted to if we are not careful.
You can get addicted to all kinds of things. You can be addicted to shopping, sports, and video games. Even food can become addictive. Please understand that drug use is not the only addiction. There are lots of addictions which are not illegal or initially harmful. If we are more committed to anything in our life other than Jesus, it beckons God’s judgment. When you put your addiction (whatever it may be) before your relationship with Christ, it will create significant pain in your life.
God doesn't want you to be addicted to anything other than Him. He wants you to be in love with Jesus more than anything or anyone else. He wants you to live a life with freedom, rather than living a life where your addiction makes you feel better about your circumstances.
You need to free yourself from any kind of addictive behavior. I pray that you will begin taking the necessary steps today to replace your love for your addiction with your love for Jesus. He will give you peace and fulfillment like nothing and no one else can. You just have to choose to trust in Him above all else.

I do love Jesus above all else. I got rid of my addiction to shopping. Although, I did more browsing than buying. Fortunately, I don't have room for a lot of things so that keeps me toned down. Nothing compares to the love Jesus has for me
Because I came from very poor upbringing - I always felt I needed more when I became an adult - now that our children are raised - I feel like something has definitely been missing and although we attended church regularly I still didn’t have my priorities straight. The things we work for are not important at all - seeking God and loving him with our whole heart is more important than STUFF! We are only one breath from here to eternity we must put love above anything else.
Amen- "we must put God above anything else." For the Love of Jesus is the truth and the truth will set you free.
Amen. For if we have food and clothing, let us be content ....help us, LORD ..thank You, Jesus. 1 Timothy 6
