The Power You Haven't Tapped
"For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body -- whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free -- and we were all given the one Spirit to drink." (1 Corinthians 12:13)
Have you ever felt that disconnect between what you want God to do in your life and what's actually happening? I know I have. Just last week, I was fishing out on the lake, and my line kept getting tangled. No matter how carefully I cast, something wasn't working right. After twenty minutes of frustration, I realized I'd threaded the line through the rod incorrectly. All my effort was useless because I wasn't using the equipment properly.
That's exactly what happens in our spiritual lives. You're trying so hard—I see it in your eyes every Sunday. You're disciplined, you're coming to church, you're reading your Bible. But something's still not clicking, is it? The patience you want with your kids, the victory over that temptation, the peace you're desperate for—it's not happening.
Here's why: you're trying to live the Christian life with your own strength. That's like trying to cut down a tree with a chainsaw that's not turned on. I did that once! Bought a brand new chainsaw and couldn't figure out why it was taking so much effort until my neighbor walked over, pulled the cord, and the thing roared to life. I felt pretty foolish standing there.
Listen to me, friend. The Holy Spirit isn't some theological concept—He's a person who lives inside you right now. He wants to power your life from the inside out.
This week, before your feet hit the floor in the morning, I want you to say these words: "Holy Spirit, I can't do today on my own. I need Your power, not my strength." Then when that difficult conversation comes up, that temptation hits, or that decision needs to be made, pause and whisper, "Spirit, give me Your power right now."
Stop struggling with the unplugged chainsaw. Let the power come on in your life today.
