Encouraging One Another
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. (Proverbs 17:17)
Yesterday we talked about the importance of showing up for the people you love. And while that it is important and necessary if you want to love others well, there’s more to building strong relationships than just being there for people. So let’s take a look at a few other ways you can show love and encouragement to those closest to you.
1. Use Words
Love is showing someone you love them, but also you need to speak words of love. You not only need to say the right words, but you should say them in the right way. When Jesus used words, He used words that were very powerful. He spoke words of encouragement, direction and affirmation. God wants us to live just like that.
2. Pray For Them
We need to make it a habit of praying for those we love. If you love someone, you most likely have a good idea of what’s going on in their lives – what they’re waiting for, what they’re struggling with, what they’re hoping for – and that gives you a unique opportunity to pray for them specifically. So if you want to love someone well, pray for them consistently and intercede on their behalf.
3. Keep Your Word
Your word has influence. When you keep your promise, it says that you are reliable. You are dependable. You will be there, when you say you will be there. Parents, your kids need that. Grandparents, your grandkids need that. Students, your friends need that. Trust is something that is earned, never demanded. That is also what love is. Love keeps promises. If you want to learn to love like Jesus, your word must be your bond.
