Praise the Lord
Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. (Psalm 57:8)
Whether you are a morning person or an evening person does not matter. The words that come out of our mouths every day do matter. The psalmist is calling on himself to engage with praise and we should consider doing the very same thing ourselves every day. Notice the self-talk here and in other passages of Scripture. Surely, like the writer of this Psalm, you have talked to yourself at times. A man once said, “This is how I am assured of having an intelligent conversation.” If you need motivation, tell yourself to get up, get awake and get actively praising the Lord.
It is critical to have your soul attentive to what your body is doing. This means you are doing more than just going through the motions. It means you are fully engaged. You know when you are fully engaged and when you aren't. Also, people around you (especially your family members) know when you are involved. If they are that sensitive, think how quickly the Lord understands where you are at any moment in time.
It is truly a blessing to play music with instruments to honor the Lord and worship Him. Even though my guitar and piano fingers are anything but concert-ready, there is something to be said about writing a fresh tune to the sound of a new morning to honor the Lord. If you are a musician, use your talent, especially when you are alone in the greatest concert hall and audience ever….your heart and Jesus. If you are not a musician, just sing. If you can’t carry a tune in a bucket, make that joyful noise and thank the Lord for being more scriptural than those with perfect pitch! (That was intended to be humorous…)
Awaken the dawn. That’s a hard pill to swallow for people who are more like night owls than morning nightingales. I have noticed that morning people usually are so inclined because they go to bed earlier than night people. So, if possible, do so. If not, awaken nature at any time with your praise to the Lord. It’s the best way to begin the day, and yes, it’s the best way to end it as well!
