Are You Feeling Stuck?
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10
Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been stuck? And by that, I mean have you ever been stuck while in a vehicle? I have gotten stuck several times in my life, but one particular instance sticks out in my mind that is very memorable.
I purchased my very first four-wheel drive vehicle when I lived in Texas. Because I had never owned one, I had the mentality that you could go anywhere in a four-wheel drive vehicle. Our church in Houston had a parking lot, and behind the parking lot were about three or four acres that we called the “back 40,” and it was boggy. But because I had four-wheel drive, I thought I could drive through it.
I decided to get off the pavement. I put it in “four low,” and took off. I didn’t get very far until I sank, not just all the way up to the axles, but all the way up to the floorboards! I was totally dismayed. I couldn't believe it. It was going down very quickly. I got out and looked around. Because there wasn't anything for me to put under the tires, all I could do was call a wrecker.
The wrecker finally came and he looked at me and said, “You're stuck!” I said, “That's why I called you.” He said, “I'll do my best.” He ran the line out there and hooked me up. He tried to pull me out of the muck. As he was using the winch, the wrecker began to be pulled toward the muck. I was really, really stuck! He said, “Man, we have problems here.” Several hundred dollars later, I was out of the muck. And as a result, I realized that just because you have four-wheel drive doesn't mean you can go anywhere you want. There are times when you will still get stuck.
This is true for many people, not just in driving, but in life. We sometimes get stuck spiritually. It seems like there is no traction. We haven't grown and we are not moving forward or backward. We are just stuck! Sometimes, we are stuck in a relationship where we are just not moving forward. Things are not what you intended or expected. Sometimes, we get stuck financially and we don't know what to do. Sometimes, we get stuck emotionally; we are trying to figure out how we can get going again, rather than staying in this muck.
Thankfully, as believers, we don’t have to stay stuck. We have a Savior (much like the man who pulled my truck out of the “back 40” that day) who comes to pull us out of our “stuckness.” Sure it might be a messy process. It might not be easy or quick or painless. But He promises to be with us every step of the way as He brings us through the challenges we will inevitably face in this life.
If you’re feeling stuck today, my prayer is that you would lean on your Savior, Jesus Christ, and ask Him to make His presence known to you as He helps you through whatever struggle you’re walking through today.

I am very fortunate to have Christian friends who helped me get unstuck in different situations. I know to look to my Heavenly Father if I feel stuck
Barb, life can be harsh and overwhelming especially when we're young and vulnerable. On the other hand, you are fortunate to have learned one of God's greatest teachings. While other people teach us to trust them, God teaches us not to trust other people. God has been watching over you and teaching you and preparing you for the future and a better life. ❤️ The Bible contains multiple passages that say not to trust in man, including Isaiah 2:22, Psalm 118:8, and Jeremiah 17:5.
n
n• Isaiah 2:22: "Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath. For of what account is he?". This verse encourages people to trust in Jesus and God, rather than in other people or nations.
n• Psalm 118:8: "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man".
n• Jeremiah 17:5: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD".
Great word!
