The Spiritual Battle
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
This is a great time of the year because fall and football season are here! When I think about football, I go back to when I first had a chance to suit up in junior high. I was so excited to play football (tackle football), getting cleats, pads, shoulder pads, and a helmet. However, there was one thing that I didn't like, and that was “two-a-days.” Oh man, they were tough! That is where you came early in the morning and you worked out and then you went back home; then you came back in the afternoon and you practiced and practiced. Your life was all about football. It was part of the conditioning process to get you ready for the football season.
That is exactly where we are right now, as a church, as a country, and as individual believers. We are in a battle, and we need to be prepared to do battle as believers. There is no doubt about it, we are in a battle right now on multiple fronts. The enemy of our soul is Satan himself. He is battling against the soul of this country, as well as your soul.
Of all the different fronts, the most important battle we are fighting is on the spiritual front. God's Word has never been more ignored, and more ignorantly redefined based upon cultural values than today. Many believers simply don't know what the Word of God says. This is difficult to manage because of a lack of theological understanding and application to people's lives. You find people who call themselves believers who have a different theology than what the Word of God says.
This is why we need to prioritize spending time in the Word of God each day. We need to know what the Bible teaches. We need to familiarize ourselves with the words Jesus spoke during His time on earth. If we truly understand what the Word of God says, we will be equipped to fight back and stand up for what we believe.
Are you spending time in the Word of God each day? Are you equipping yourself for the battle that is waging against our faith? If not, I pray that you will prioritize reading Scripture every single day so you can prepare yourself for the battle at hand.
