The Lord Will Provide
So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” (Genesis 22:14)
This chapter recounts the event which happened on top of Mount Moriah. Abraham, after being instructed to take his son, Isaac and offer him as a sacrifice, journeyed to the mountain with his son and several servants. Climbing the mountain, he took his only son (the promised one) who was born to him in his ninth decade of life. He made an altar, bound his son upon the altar and raised his hand, with a steel grip on his knife to complete the task. He had previously told his son that God would provide a lamb for the sacrifice. Now, at the last moment, God restrained Abraham’s hand and pointed him to a ram in the thicket. God provided for both Abraham and his son. What a dramatic story!
“Jehovah Jireh” is the English translation for the phrase, “The Lord Will Provide.” Describing another characteristic of our Lord, we must never forget who He is and what He does. You see, our Lord wants us to live before Him with open hands, a life which is not controlled by possessions. To the degree we live like that, will be the degree we will experience His provision. Such a life is an exciting life, but we often find ourselves wanting to provide for ourselves rather than allowing Him to provide for us.
Throughout my entire ministry, I have witnessed time and time again God’s way of provision at just the right time, right place and through unexpected channels. His flair for the dramatic, often waiting until He sees I’ve come to an end of myself and my resources, still amazes me. There have been far too many experiences in my journey to even once charge coincidence with the blessing. It has been God and God alone who has provided. His provision brings a sense of peace and joy, every time.
Just imagine how Abraham and Isaac embraced when the ropes were released! Isaac became a gift for a second time! Don’t be afraid to ask and wait for God’s provision. He specializes in meeting needs.
