Boldly Standing for Christ
They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. (Revelation 12:11)
Let me tell you a story about a guy named Matt. He was a high school student in a church I pastored in Houston many years ago. We had been emphasizing in our church the importance of taking a stand for Jesus Christ. Accordingly, we were looking for opportunities to share our faith.
One day, Matt took his girlfriend to the “dollar show.” (He was a big spender back then.) That weekend, they were playing the movie “Home Alone.” Matt and his girlfriend were sitting on the front row and the place was packed. After the movie started, the movie projector suddenly went down and the screen darkened. People began to get a little uncomfortable and began to yell, “Get it back on.”
Eventually, it came back on, and everyone clapped. During that moment, Matt felt led to pray this prayer: “Dear Jesus, if you let that movie go down again, I will take a stand for you right here and now, in Jesus’ name, Amen.” A few minutes later, the movie projector went out again, and the crowd became very rambunctious and impatient.
At that moment, Matt stood up in front of everyone in that packed theater; and he said, “May I have your attention please?” Everyone got quiet to hear what he had to say. He said, “My name is Matt. I gave my life to Christ a short time ago, and He has changed my life. If you don't give your life to Christ, you will go home alone. Thank you.” As he sat down, people applauded him for what he had done. For the rest of the movie, people kept coming up to him on the front row and saying, “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for doing that.”
I will never forget that story because several people gave their lives to Christ and followed the Lord in baptism at our church. They did this simply because of the boldness of Matt’s testimony.
Are you willing to be bold like Matt and share your testimony with others, even if it’s uncomfortable or awkward? You never know whose eternity could be impacted by your boldness. I encourage you to begin praying and asking the Lord (just like Matt did) to give you opportunities to share your testimony and point others to Christ.
