God Can Defend Himself
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
When we don't understand what God is doing, we try to explain why God would allow something to happen. Many of us think we have to answer all of the “nay-sayers.” We hear people say, “If God is a God of love, why is He allowing this to happen?” How do you answer such people? It is perfectly okay to say, “I don’t know.”
Your faith is not under attack, the character of God is! When you think you need to defend God, allow Him to speak for Himself. Drop your logic and philosophical answers. Instead, let the Word of God speak. God defends Himself through His Word. These are some examples:
God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, rather He wants people to come to repentance.
“Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’” (Ezekiel 33:11)
The Bible tells us that God is patient, not wanting anyone to perish.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
These are only a couple of examples, but they prove that God’s Word is His defense. It is not our job to make sense of God and try to explain Him to those who doubt. Instead, let Him defend Himself. Allow Him to speak to the hearts of those who are unsure and doubtful of His goodness and His faithfulness. Trust that He will reveal His true character to them in the right way and at the right time.
