Fighting Temptation
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
There is a war going on inside of us all the time. We are constantly being tempted by the things of this world. We need to realize that this is just part of the human condition.
The good news is that the Bible says very clearly that God is faithful. He will not allow you to go through any temptation that you can’t avoid, or that you don’t have the strength to endure.
It would be great if you got saved, became a follower of Christ, got baptized, and you never had any problems with your flesh. It would be wonderful if you had no temptations and God just insulated you, and made you comfortable all of the time. It would be nice if, on days when it was extremely hot spiritually, God gave you air conditioning; and when it was cold, He gave you warmth and heat.
If you think this is the Christian life, think again! Unfortunately, we live in a fallen world and, therefore, we have to deal with the temptations that will inevitably come our way. Despite that, God wants us to learn how to deal with the issue of temptation. There is no better way to do that than to dive into His Word.
If you are struggling with temptation, I would encourage you to examine Scriptures that address temptation. Several examples include Luke 4:1-13, Romans 6:1-14, and Psalm 119:11. You could begin here and expand your search to include other helpful passages. By arming yourself with the wisdom found in God’s Word, you can be victorious over temptation!
