Steps and Stops
The steps of a godly man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. (Psalm 37:23)
I love the story of A.T. Pearson, who was a great preacher of yesteryear. He had the privilege of opening the Bible of George Mueller, a great man of faith. In the early days of our country, Pearson raised millions of dollars to underwrite the care of orphans in his care.
When Pearson opened the Bible of Mueller, he looked at Psalm 37:23 which says in the old King James Version, “the steps of a godly man are ordered by the Lord.” He noticed in the margin that George Mueller had written, “…and the stops, too.”
I don't know where you are today. Whether you are moving forward or you think you have stopped, God is in charge! He is in the driver’s seat and He’s in total control! Nothing catches Him off guard.
Not one time has there been a sign in heaven where God would say, “I didn't know that would happen.” He knows exactly where you are. I like saying, just as Jesus said, “God even has the number of hairs on your head counted.” If God knows that much detail about you personally, you can trust that He is intimately involved with where you are right now.
Whatever you are walking through today, remember that the steps and the stops of a godly man or woman are ordered by the Lord. You can trust Him to lead you, guide you, and be with you along the way. He will never let His children down!
