Plans Yet Unrealized
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
I remember the first time I read this verse in college. Clueless about the next steps for my life, it was completely refreshing to know that He had my life all mapped out. I just wanted a hint at what the first step should be. Too often, I fretted way too much for my good during those days of bewilderment and daze. Even now, if not careful, I can find myself back at square one again. Remember, the good word here is that God knows the plans He has for us. The treasure hunt is for us to discover them every day. Eventually, we will be able to look in the rear-view mirror of our lives, and be able to say, “It was just like His plan…and it was very good.”
The last part of this verse conflicts many people. He says, “He has plans to prosper and not to harm us, plans to give us a real hope and a solid future.” Think of that for a moment. Do you really believe that? For some of us, we don’t think God is for us. We sing it, but a false thought within yells loudly at us and says, “You don’t deserve one good thing, especially prosperity, much less hope!” If you fight with those feelings, ask the Lord where they are originating. He does want to bless you. It’s easy to read and even sing words of affirmation, but sometimes, down deep, we don’t really believe it. If you are there right now, don’t go any further. Stop and ask God, why?
While you listen, He will let you know. As His child, refuse to allow yourself room to rebuff God’s blessings and plans. Just lift your childlike hands today and thank Him because He has it all covered for you. The rest of this day should be lived with joy and a great sense of expectation. You know that, at the right time, and the right place, when you are ready; His plans will become very clear…and they are all good!
