Come and See
When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. (John 1:37-39)
After Jesus was baptized, He made His way to John the Baptist’s place of ministry again. As He was passing by, John acknowledged Him as the “Lamb of God.” Immediately, some disciples of John started to lag behind Jesus to see just who this Lamb of God was. It was almost like they were stalking Him, but not for long. Jesus invited them along on His journey. Their small talk was about His lodging; His big talk was about their living.
Jesus is still inviting people to join Him on His journey. Those who are interested often lag behind, almost not wanting to intrude into the things of the Kingdom. Maybe that’s why people often don’t fill out Visitor’s Cards when they attend a church. They might not want to be called or visited, but they do have an interest in the Savior. He always notices them!
The real question is, “Do you notice them?” Following on the heels of that question should be an invitation, to “Come and see.” Is there anyone in your life’s circle who is on the edge of the search to investigate Jesus? As you read this, has the Lord whispered their name into your heart? If so, engage with them and ask them to join in the journey of discovering Jesus. Go slowly, but above all, encourage them to “come and see.”
