Feed Your Faith
Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? (Romans 6:16)
I love the story of an old Indian chief. He was introduced to Jesus Christ as Lord of his life by a missionary on his reservation. He turned from sin and placed his faith in Christ. Months passed. The missionary came back and he saw the chief and asked him, “How is it going spiritually for you?” The chief looked at him and said, “You know, it's like there are two dogs inside of me fighting. A black dog and a white dog are constantly at war, constantly at each other's throats.” The missionary wisely and sensitively asked, “Well, which one wins?” The chief looked at him and said, “Whichever dog I feed the most.”
If you want to strengthen your spiritual life, you will have to feed it. You will have to nurture your spiritual life. It will not happen because you are here today and seated. It will not come by osmosis. You must learn to develop time alone with God. Most of the time, you will not be in a crowd like this. You will have to learn how to walk with God on your own. That requires spiritual discipline.
You might say, “Lord, I don't like to read.” Ask Him to give you a desire to read His Word. Be honest with Him and say, “God, you know, I don't like to pray.” He already knows that about you. He has already seen your prayerless moments. Ask Him to give you the heart to pray. Maybe you are saying, “Lord, I have a difficult time sharing my faith. And I miss so many opportunities.” He knows that. Ask Him to give you the confidence to share Jesus as never before.
Maybe you struggle in the area of finances, and you are waiting for God to bless you with much. You may not realize that God does not bless you until you learn to be faithful over the little. Tell Him your struggle. He knows it. Ask Him to teach you to become a warrior of faith, even in your finances.
The Lord will help you feed your faith. He wants to see you grow and mature in your walk with Him. Accordingly, decide today to feed your faith more than you feed anything else that is barking for your attention and affection.
