When God Repeats Himself
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27)
As a pastor, I sometimes repeat myself when I’m preaching. In good communications, you tell people the truth, then you remind them of what you told them, and finally, you tell them again, in case they forgot. Repetition is key if you want to remember something. You need to expose yourself to the information over and over again.
While this is a popular principle for pastors and speakers, we can also use it in our relationship with the Lord. God has often repeated Himself to me, whether by bringing up the same verse in Scripture over and over again, repeating a theme in my daily quiet time, or allowing multiple people to speak similar encouragements to me.
My ears perk up and my heart dials in when I see this type of repetition taking place. I’ve learned to recognize when God is trying to get my attention. It’s an incredible thing when you can pick up on different ways God is communicating with you and trying to get a message across to you.
Has this ever happened in your relationship with the Lord? Maybe there was a decision you had to make, and you kept getting the same advice from your friends, family, mentors, and pastors. Maybe you were struggling with something, and the same passage of Scripture was frequently popping up to speak directly to your struggle.
Whether you realized it at the time or not, God was repeating Himself. He was making His message as clear as possible because humans don’t always pick up on things the first time.
If you have never experienced anything like this before, I encourage you to ask the Lord to speak to you through His Word, His Holy Spirit, and His people. Ask Him to repeat Himself and make Himself clear to you as you search for encouragement, wisdom, and discernment in all of your circumstances. He will be faithful to honor your request, because He loves to commune with His children.

I know it is good to have something repeated to me. I forget things after a while. That's like reading the Bible again and realizing something you didn't think was there before. I will keep asking God to repeat things until I get it
