I Am Innocent
When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said, “It is your responsibility!” (Matthew 27:24)
Pilate’s responsibility to his Roman government was to keep the peace in the region. That was his job. However, he would actually wash his hands of Jesus’ case and surrender Him to the wishes of a loud mob. There was no way he could fail to take a stand. Not taking a stand for justice and truth in this case was passivity in practice. By his actions and lack of actions, he was aligned with evil. This happens every time and in every generation.
Can someone really declare their innocence in the blood of Christ? Can any of us excuse our lack of engagement with Jesus because we don’t want to be involved, and remain innocent before God? Of course not! We are all guilty because of our sin. It was our sin which brought the Savior to this world. Out of His love for us, God, desiring an intimate relationship with us, sent His Son to redeem us from our sins. Jesus shed His innocent blood on the cross to pay the price for our atrocious sins!
You can declare your innocence, but that doesn’t make it true! You do not have the authority to absolve yourself of your sin; only God can do that. Pilate washed his hands publicly before the crowd that day to declare his innocence. The one who will truly experience cleansing is the one who raises their hand and says, “I am guilty! I am sinful! Thank you, Jesus for dying for me!” For it is only in Christ, that God sees us completely innocent. Celebrate that today!

I am so thankful that Jesus died on the cross for me to save me from my sins and that I will be able to spend eternity with Him. I thank God and Jesus for this a lot. I am very grateful
Thank you for this devotion. I had wondered why Pilate washed his hands and stating " I am innocent of this man's blood ", he said " It's your responsibility." I understand now, we are not innocent only one is Jesus Christ who died for our sins and coming back soon!
I thank God for His mercy and grace through Jesus Christ our LORD and His shed blood fur my sin. I have nothing else to stand on. Thank You, Jesus. ðŸ™
