What Does The Bible Say About Cohabitation?
Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. – Hebrews 13:4
If ever there was a time when marriage needs to be honored and lifted high, it is today. We are in a culture that has chosen to cohabitate (to live together). That is unfortunate because it is creating a pattern for our children and our children's children that is both ungodly and evil. As believers, we need to understand that modeling godly marriage is an honorable thing.
If you are currently living with the person you’re dating, I am glad you are here. I’m glad you are seeking the Lord. But I want to be honest with you and share God’s truth with you. You need to repent. You need to get right with God, and you need to stop the cohabitation and live in a separate domicile.
When I’ve told couples this before, many of them will say, “Pastor, we need to find out if we are compatible.” But the truth is, you already are compatible! You don't need to see if you are compatible. The parts fit! You need to line up with the Word of God. You must decide if you will treat marriage as something that is honorable and not optional.
When you say “yes” to Jesus, it means He controls every area of your life. If you choose to lead a sexually active life outside of marriage, you are in sin and you need to repent immediately. Don’t expect God to bless your life or bless your relationships if you choose to live an ungodly lifestyle. Instead, choose to surrender your flesh’s desires and instead align your heart with God’s design for marriage and relationship. When you do, He will surely bless your obedience.
