Honor Your Spiritual Heritage
Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. – Hebrews 13:7
I believe it is incredibly important to honor those who have led us spiritually and helped point us to Jesus throughout our lives.
Sometimes, the new generation looks back at the old generation and says, “Thanks, but no thanks. I am doing it my way.” Over time, they realize that might not be the wisest mindset to have. The Amish have a saying, “We grow too soon old and too late ‘schmart.’” Sometimes, the wisdom of those from the past gives us great insight on how to live.
We are to honor those who have made an impact on our lives spiritually, and we can do that by sharing the Gospel, but continuing their legacy. Like we discussed yesterday, we aren’t supposed to worship our spiritual leaders. Jesus is the only one who deserves our worship. But I do believe we should honor pastors, Bible study teachers, and people who have come alongside us in our lives. They kept us looking to Jesus. And we can honor them by helping others do the same.
As I think about some of the men and women who God has used in my life, I am grateful for my spiritual heritage. I wonder what my life would have been like if they had not been in my life. Who has a place in your spiritual heritage? Who has played a part in helping you grow spiritually?
Take some time today to reach out to those people and thank them for the impact they’ve made in your life. And then make a point to do for others what your spiritual mentors have done for you.

I would be lost without the spiritual leaders that are in my life. The congregation at my present church are honoring our pastor by each person giving him and his wife a present each day of October.
I’m grateful for the ministry of Westside Church. I know I’ll only hear words true to Gods teaching from them. May God’s hand continue to guide them.
Thank you Curt for being a spiritual leader in my life.
