Who Do You Follow?
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)
Who do you follow in your life? I am not talking about who you follow on Instagram or who you keep up with on Facebook. I’m asking, who do you follow, who do you serve, and who do you model yourself after?
To determine the answer to these important questions, here are a few more specific questions to help:
God wants us to decide who we will follow. If you have one foot in the church and one foot in the world, you can’t do both. The reality is that you will do more for the world than you do for the Lord. We need to embrace that.
If you have never given your life to Christ, you are following something else. Maybe, it is someone, your business, or your flesh. Maybe, it is a dream that you've imagined for your life that completely absorbs you. Are you following the Lord? Has there been a moment in your life when you actually turned from sin and placed your faith in Christ? Can you remember that time when you made a decision that would change the direction for the rest of your life? Has that happened? Are you following Christ?
Have you turned to the Lord? Have you been backsliding? Maybe, you have made that decision, but you have been doing something that the old timers used to call “backsliding.” You literally stopped following with the full intensity that you once had to follow Jesus.
Do you know what is happening in Christianity today? All major denominations have been in decline for the last decade. With the pandemic, fewer people are following Christ. Fewer people are advocating for Christ with everything they have than at any other time. People used to follow Christ wholeheartedly, full-blown, committed, and involved in ministry. Now, they are not lining up like before. What is happening? It is a question of “followship.”
The moment you received Christ, I pray you decided to give Jesus everything, and you chose to follow Him regardless of how things developed in your life. When in doubt, you leaned on Christ, and that was your decision.
I believe in Decision Theology. Jesus did in Matthew when He said this, “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32)
This is a decision where God is calling you to align your life with Christ. If you have never given your life to Christ, I pray that today would be the day that you would surrender to Jesus, turn from your sin and place your faith in Him. If you have already done that in the past, I pray that you would rededicate your life once again and choose to follow Christ with renewed vigor.

To determine the answer to these important questions, here are a few more specific questions to help:
- Where do you spend most of your time?
- Where do you allocate most of your money?
- What or who has your attention right now?
- Who has your heart?
