Obeying the Word of God
"Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me."
—John 14:21
As His children, we are called to align our lives with the Word of God. But let me ask you something personal—are you negotiating with God about something He has clearly told you to do? Maybe you've given your life to Christ, but you haven't taken that next step of obedience—baptism.
Now, baptism itself doesn’t save you. It’s not the water that washes away your sins. The thief on the cross, who was saved just before his death, never made it to the baptismal pool. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone. If you think baptism as an infant took away your sin, it’s time to rethink that. Baptism is not what saves us; it’s an encounter with Christ that changes us.
Baptism is an outward declaration of the inward change that Christ has made in your life. It’s a public statement that you are identifying with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection. When we go under the water and come up, it symbolizes the death of our old self and the resurrection of our new life in Christ.
Think of it like a wedding ring. I wear my ring to show that I am married. It’s a visible sign that I belong to someone. Baptism is that visible sign in our walk with Christ. It shows the world that we belong to Him. Jesus Himself was baptized to show us its importance (Matthew 3:15).
So, are you ready to take that step in obedience? Baptism doesn’t save us, but it’s a crucial step in our walk with Jesus.
