Believing God’s Word
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and the attitudes of the heart.” - Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
Something I hear all the time is that people want to know the will of God. And not only do they want to know the will of God, but they want to be able to stay in His will. So when someone approaches me asking how they can find God’s will, the first thing I tell them is to receive and believe the Word of God.
The key is actually believing His Word. It’s one thing to read something. It’s another thing to actually believe what you’re reading, and that’s the most important thing when it comes to diving into Scripture and seeking God’s will for your life.
With than in mind, I want to give you three critical presuppositions to receiving and believing the Word of God, in hopes of helping you as you attempt discover the will of God.
So, as you are spending time with your Heavenly Father and searching Scripture for guidance and direction, I hope you will keep these three things in mind. God’s Word can be trusted, it can be used for guidance in our faith walk, and it reveals God’s best for us. I pray you find comfort and peace in these promises.

- God’s Word is trustworthy. Paul writes in Romans 11:29 that “God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.” God does not withdraw with He gives, and that includes His Word. He is a faithful, trustworthy, and perfectly honest God, and He will follow through on what He says.
- God’s Word is for our walk. When God gave us His Word, it was for our benefit. Just as we are reminded in Psalm 119:105, “Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path,” God’s Word shows us where to walk, where we’re standing, and where we need to go. Let’s not forget that the Bible is available to us so that our eyes might be opened to see what the Lord has for us.
- God’s Word is the best way. A lot of times, you and I feel like we may know what’s best for us. But in reality, we have no idea what is best, and that’s why we need God and His Word. Jesus made this point when he said, “Which of you, if your son asked for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asked for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him?” (Matthew 7:9-11). Even though we may not always understand why God is telling us to do something or leading us to go someplace, He knows best. And the best thing we can do for ourselves is to trust Him and follow Him in obedience.
So, as you are spending time with your Heavenly Father and searching Scripture for guidance and direction, I hope you will keep these three things in mind. I know that the Holy Spirit interprets the Bible to me when there is something that I don't understand. Or will lead me to someone who does. I love to read God's Word ?
