No Outside Doorknob

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." — Revelation 3:20
 
Have you ever really looked at that door?
 
There's a famous painting by Holman Hunt called "The Light of the World." It shows Jesus standing at a vine-covered door, lantern in hand, knocking. It's a beautiful image of Revelation 3:20.
 
But here's the detail most people miss: there's no doorknob on the outside.
 
Hunt painted it that way on purpose. The door can only be opened from the inside. Jesus won't kick it down. He won't slip through a back window. He won't force His way in. He knocks. He waits. And the choice to open is yours.
 
"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13).
 
Intimacy with Jesus is by invitation. He's standing there right now, wanting to come in, wanting to sit with you, wanting to share life with you. But He won't push Himself on you.
 
Some of us know He's there. We can hear the knock. But we're not ready to open the door. Maybe we're afraid of what He'll ask. Maybe we're comfortable with the distance. Maybe we just want to know about Him without actually knowing Him.
 
But knowing about someone and knowing someone are two very different things. And the only way to really know Jesus is to invite Him in.
