Nothing Too Hard for Him
"Ah, Lord GOD! It is You who have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for You." — Jeremiah 32:17
What would you ask God for if you weren't afraid He might say no?
One Sunday morning I walked into our auditorium, and before I ever opened my Bible, the Lord put something heavy on my heart. There were people sitting in those seats carrying deep cares. Some were worried about a family member, some about their health, and some about a business that was hanging by a thread. So I did something that wasn't in the order of worship. I called our deacons and prayer team to the front and invited anyone carrying a burden to come. I turned my microphone off and let the Father do what only He can do.
I've been a pastor long enough to know the difference between trying to manipulate a moment and following a nudge from the Holy Spirit. That morning was a nudge.
Jesus said His house would be called a house of prayer. He didn't say a house of preaching or a house of music. I love both of those, but nothing is more powerful than God's children crying out to Him.
When Jeremiah prayed the words above, he was locked up in prison while the Babylonian army surrounded Jerusalem. By every human measure, the situation was hopeless. And God told him to go buy a field. Jeremiah obeyed, and then he prayed, "Nothing is too hard for You."
Many of us pray small prayers because we're protecting ourselves from disappointment. We ask God for what we think He can manage. But He made the heavens and the earth with His outstretched arm, and your situation hasn't surprised Him for one second.
Don't be afraid to ask Him for the impossible. Bring Him the thing you've been carrying alone. And when you see Him move, make sure you give Him all the glory and honor, because He's the only one who deserves it.
