Transformational Giving
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:10-11)
We looked at four ways God enjoys our act of giving. Today, we will add three more points to the list. Our giving can be transformational to the Kingdom of God, and our generosity ultimately honors Jesus Christ and points others to Him.
1. God enjoys our giving when it is timely.
God wants you to engage with Him and follow the tug of His Spirit to give like He desires. You might give out of legalism or obligation. When He urges you to do specific things for certain people, or do special things for certain ministries; we should respond to the tug that He has placed on our hearts. Like Mary, we should give extravagantly, and get fully engaged with our call to give. This is the kind of giving that God enjoys; and this is the kind of giver He wants you to be.
2. God enjoys our giving when it is transformational.
When we become the kind of givers who God wants us to be, it will be transformational in our church. There will be an aroma which comes out of who we are. The church will be encouraging, loving, inviting, full of grace, and caring for people's souls. People will be drawn to that church because it is full of many generous givers. When you find a group of people who are engaging and giving like that, God honors it, and He will trust many new believers to that kind of fellowship.
3. God enjoys our giving when it honors Jesus.
When you give to accomplish God's Kingdom work (the Great Commission), it honors Jesus. When you give of yourself in ministry to reach others for Jesus and exemplify the character of Christ, it honors Christ. This is the kind of giving that God honors and He wants to do it through the urging inside your heart. When God urges you to do it, respond immediately; and don't wait. God knows how to bring everything together. He will change your heart and show you what He wants you to do in someone’s life at the right time.
