Wisdom in the Bible
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. (James 1:5)
The Bible makes it very clear that if we ask for wisdom, the Lord will grant us wisdom. This is one of my favorite promises in all of Scripture. When we pray for wisdom, we can’t just expect God to grant us wisdom. We need to do our part. The best way for us to gain wisdom is to drill down into studying the Word of God.
Scripture is the greatest source of wisdom available! Over and over, the Bible talks about wisdom and gives us incredible advice on how to live wisely.
When I studied the book of Joshua, I found 36 leadership principles in that one book alone. John Maxwell found 22 leadership principles in Joshua and wrote a book about them.
John Maxwell isn’t the only well-known leader to recognize all of the wisdom that is found in Scripture. George Washington said, “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.”
Abraham Lincoln said, “I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this book.”
Herbert Hoover said, “The whole of the inspiration of our civilization springs from the teachings of Christ and the lessons of the prophets to read the Bible, for these fundamentals are a necessity of American life.”
These great leaders clearly recognized the wisdom in God’s Word. Like them, we should uncover the wisdom that is found in the Bible and apply it to our lives.
God wants you to use the Bible. He did not intend that only pastors would study the Bible. He wants you to read the Bible and apply its principles to your life, to your business, to your relationships, and especially to your family.
