Overcoming Exhaustion
“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” (Jeremiah 31:25)
Have you ever felt totally depleted? You simply had nothing left to give. You were completely exhausted physically, emotionally, and even spiritually. Has that ever happened to you?
Most likely, you have experienced this. If you haven’t seen this yet, there is a good chance you will encounter this kind of exhaustion. Therefore, exhaustion is an emotion that we need to manage; if we don’t, the repercussions could be devastating.
Think about how exhaustion affected different people in the Bible. King David’s exhaustion led to a disastrous affair. Simon Peter’s exhaustion caused a denial. John Mark’s exhaustion contributed to downright desertion. Job’s exhaustion led to disillusionment. Moses’ exhaustion caused disobedient anger. If you and I don’t manage exhaustion appropriately, it will get the best of us.
One way we can prevent this is by not letting fear overpower our faith. Take Elijah for example. At the apex of his professional career, God used him to turn an entire country around and bring judgment upon the prophets of Baal. However, when one woman’s words threatened his life, this man of great faith was filled with fear.
God doesn’t want any of His children operating out of fear. The Bible tells us that perfect love drives out fear. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. (1 John 4:18)
If fear is the primary emotion you are feeling, something is not right. You are not walking in the love and security available to you from the Spirit of God.
If you find yourself living in fear today and dealing with the resulting exhaustion, take heart. You don’t have to continue to be overcome with fear, thanks to the love of your Heavenly Father. I pray that you will embrace His love and allow Him to renew your faith; that will give you the rest and peace you need to keep going.
